The theme of the Garden of Eden was chosen because it symbolically expresses a basic idea about the human condition. The biblical story is significant as a “broken myth” being that the importance of the story is transcendent from a literal interpretation. It is an expression of various components of the human experience in an existential condition including notions about the creation of human life and the estrangement of humans from the natural world. It also embodies notions of separation and rejoining.
